Audi Quattro Traction turns 30

Audi first introduced the quattro drive in the Geneva International Exhibition of 1980 . Since then, the technology Inglostadt brand has become one of the watchwords of the firm. The initial idea was so cool and revolutionary: to adapt to a tourism road wheel drive system developed for an SUV for military purposes.
With the modified body of an Audi Coupe and a turbocharged five-cylinder engine 200 hp, the Audi quattro was the big attraction presented. Then decided that the Audi quattro system would not be exclusive of its future sports models, but also of their cars to be distinguished from the competition thanks to their unique drive system. The AWD system dominated the rally tracks to achieve four successive world championships between 1982 and 1984.
Also set historical records in the mythical ascent to Pikes Peak, until after the abolition of the legendary Group B the official factory team was focused on the permanent high-speed circuits . The quattro permanent four wheel drive again showed their superiority also on the asphalt, since the U.S. victory in the championship TrasAm 1988 until 1996, when the Audi A4 Quattro Super Touring won national championships in seven cars.
Currently, the range of Audi models with quattro all covers over 110 different versions with four-wheel traction result of combining this type of traction with different engines, bodies and gearboxes. Audi quattro offers not only in their more powerful models and sports, but across the range and in combination with diesel engines or convertible body styles .
