At the next Geneva Motor Show 2010 will be shown the Proton Concept , which will be powered by a hybrid powertrain supplied by Lotus Engineering, technology development section of the British brand. The Proton Concept is a City Car is equipped with technology plug-in hybrid Lotus and a body designed by Italdesign.
The propulsion system of Lotus Engineering has two engines: an electric one with a transmission speed , intended for use exclusively by city vehicle, where speeds are low and will not need to be used; and other gasoline , which we use whenever we choose to travel on inter-city roads, 3-cylinder and 1.2 liter capacity.
With the combustion engine, which they call “range extender” in Lotus (magnifier autonomy), is able to increase the scope of the concept, regardless of the electric motor while recharging the batteries that feed it. It is also possible, thanks to technology Plug-In , recharge the batteries in a conventional electrical outlet .
“ Our collaboration with Lotus and Italdesign progressive technology and design will further enhance our competitiveness in the global market. Through this partnership, we strive to acquire and jointly develop new knowledge, skills and technologies that will ultimately benefit our customers. “Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir bin / CEO of Proton Holdings – free translation
” The hybrid propulsion system of the Proton Concept is another example of the expertise of Lotus Engineering in electrical and electronic systems and efficient engine performance. The highly efficient engine Lotus Range Extender [...] we’ve created for the Proton Concept is ideally suited to the series hybrid technology. “Dr Robert Hentschel / Director of Lotus Engineering – free translation
